Notley Tythe Barn Weddings — Page 2
The moments before a Notley Tythe Barn ceremony are some of my favourites to photograph. The bride arriving. The groom waiting at the front of that beautiful stone barn with that particular mix of nerves and excitement on his face. Guests finding their seats, the flowers on the pews, the quiet before everything begins. There's so much emotion packed into those few minutes and I love being there for all of it.
The light inside the ceremony barn is something I think about a lot. It's soft and natural and it falls beautifully on people's faces. I never have to fight it or work around it — it just does exactly what you want it to do. Every Notley Tythe Barn ceremony I've photographed has had this warm, glowing quality in the pictures that I absolutely love. It's one of the reasons I keep coming back.
The signing of the register is always a lovely, quiet moment. Just the two of you and your witnesses, the whole ceremony still fresh, everyone a little tearful and a lot happy. I always make sure I'm close enough to catch the expressions without ever feeling intrusive. Those photographs — the smiles, the little looks between you — are always some of my favourites from the whole day.
After the ceremony, the drinks reception on the lawn is always full of joy. Guests spilling out into the sunshine, champagne being poured, everyone wanting to hug the couple at once. I move through it all quietly, catching the laughter and the tears and the moments that nobody else notices. This is honestly the part of the day I love most — nobody is performing for the camera, everyone is just happy.
I've photographed so many different kinds of couples at Notley Tythe Barn over the years. Big families, small intimate gatherings, military weddings, creative weddings, traditional weddings. What they all have in common is that the venue makes everyone feel completely at home. There's something about this place that brings out the best in people, and it shows in every photograph.
I always make time to photograph the venue itself as well as the people in it. The flowers against the ancient stone. The rings on the order of service. The light catching the bride's dress as she walks through the barn doors. The setting is such a huge part of what makes a Notley Tythe Barn wedding so special, and I want the photographs to reflect that.
The bubble exit at Notley Tythe Barn is one of those moments I always look forward to. Guests lined up on either side, bubbles filling the air, the couple walking through it all with the biggest smiles on their faces. It's joyful and chaotic and completely wonderful. I always position myself to catch both the couple and the guests' reactions at the same time — because the guests' faces are half the story.
One of the things I love about this venue is how the whole day just flows. Nothing feels forced or rushed. You move naturally from one beautiful space to the next, and there are gorgeous photographs waiting at every stage. I've never once had to drag a couple somewhere for a shot at Notley Tythe Barn. The light finds you. The moments find you. You just have to be ready.
